Introduction to employment law
This an introduction to individual and collective legal rights at work. You will learn about contracts, redundancy, TUPE and some anti-discrimination law.
Introduction
This course is designed to introduce you to the structure and workings of the legal system as it affects people at work. It is an introduction only and is not intended to develop expertise in employment law. You will examine legislation, investigate case-studies and discuss issues relevant to BECTU members.
It is strongly recommended that you attend a previous course before attending this one (or have considerable experience) as it requires a sound body of pre-exisiting knowldge.
The course will cover:
- The structure of UK law
- Employment contracts
- Trade union legislation
- Redundancy
- Discrimination

By the end of this course you will have learned more about:
- How the law affects workers and employment
- What makes and what breaks a contract
- How redundancy and TUPE are applied
- How to analyse situations and resolve problems
