Negotiation skills
This course is about how to negotiate effectively with your employers and more widely. You will learn the 'tricks of the trade' - how to prepare your case, how to bargain and how to win.
Introduction
The 'Negotiation Skills' course is part of the core programme of courses for BECTU branch officers, stewards, and workplace reps. These courses deal with the four core areas of union activity - 'Representing', 'Communicating', 'Organising' and this one, 'Negotiating'.
The ability to negotiate is one of the key skills that BECTU representatives need to carry out their role. This can mean a formal set-piece negotiation or simply a 'one-to-one' discussion. Either way training is essential.
This course will cover:
- The key communication skills that aid successful negotiation
- The practice and etiquette of formal negotiations
- Negotiating tips and techniques
- Role-plays and simulations to support rapid learning
