Technical Theatre
Our short courses are run with key partners with excellent reputations throughout the country. They are delivered in theatres and venues local to our members for their convenience or in dedicated training spaces, and we work closely with employers to encourage their backing for the programme.
These courses are ideal for anyone starting out or wanting to move on within the industry
BECTU/ Total Solutions 2 day rigging course
Venue: Total Solutions Group, Birmingham, B9 4EN
Date: 8th/9th April 2008 and 11th/12th December 2008
Participants will learn basic principles of lifting, the legal responsibilities they take in carrying out rigging work in the entertainment industry and understand simple techniques in safe and efficient entertainment rigging (this does not include traditional hemp and counterweight flying).
The course is strongly practical and includes work at height with fall arrest PPE as well as rigging with chain hoists and using aluminium trusses.Participants will leave the course with a certificate of attendance and the syllabus covered, printed course notes and a basic competence in using fall arrest, hoists, trusses, slings and shackles.

Working at Height
Venue: Stage Electrics, Smethwick, Birmingham, B66 1AX ( April) & Long Lane, London (July)
Dates: 23rd April 2008 & 15th July 2008
This course will cover all the revised 2005 regulations. The course will also cover MEWPS, tallescopes, zarges, ladders and harnesses and will be delivered in an interactive and participative way, ensuring that delegates retain the learning.
IPAF
Venue: Stage Electrics, Avonmouth, Bristol
Date: 30th April
Stage Electrics has recently become an accredited IPAF training centre. Combining classroom based theory and hands on practical experience you will be instructed on the safe and correct use of MEWPS (including scissor lifts, booms and cherry pickers) Successful candidates will receive an IPAF certificate of competency, an IPAF PAL card and an operators safety log book on completion of the course.
Event Management Safety Awareness
Venue: Stage Electrics, Long Lane, London
Date: 28th May 2008
This course is a necessity for anyone involved in event management, Modules include planning and organising events, the principles of crowd safety and traffic management, risk assessments and dynamic site management.
