Great offer for freelancers in the North West

The Freelance toolkit

'Soft' skills are often overlooked in terms of career development for freelancers, but they are vital to getting the edge over your competitors. The Kit offers a range of events led by high quality, industry trainers on key subjects, including convergent media, negotiation skills, tax and book-keeping tips as well as CV makeovers and sessions with the Media Career Doctor.

The Freelance Survival Kit is a complete training package, and consists of both Essential (E) and Desirable (D) training events for freelancers to attend. Freelancers must be available to attend all Essential events, and must also choose a number of Desirable events. Although the number of Desirable events you take part in can be as few or as many as you want, for the reduced cost of the Freelance Survival Kit it is encouraged that you attend as many as possible.

Training Events

Media Career Doctor (E) - 1hr one-to-one session, 26th September, 3rd October
Health and Safety (E) - 27th September
Marketing Yourself (D) - Evening workshop, 7pm, 29th September
Interview Techniques (D)- Evening workshop, 7pm, 30th September
Tax and Finance (D) - Evening workshop, 7pm, 1st October
Networking (E) - Evening workshop, 7pm, 2nd October
CV Makeover (E) - 1hr one-to-one session, 3rd October, 10th October
Convergent Technologies (E) - 4th October
Negotiation Skills (D) - Evening workshop, 7pm, 9th October

These training events are happening during evenings and weekends, to work around freelance work patterns.

The Freelance Survival Kit costs a total of only £200, when this package of training would, separately, cost £1000.

These training events are led by high quality trainers from across the industry, including a multiplatform workshop from BBC Training, health and safety guidance from 1st Option, and networking, self marketing and negotiation workshops devised by former Channel 4 training exec Alec McPhedran. One-to-one sessions are led by two of the regions most established producers (one being an RTS award-winner), plus tax and finance advice from leading Northwest media accountant Jonathan Ford.
