Privacy Statement
The purpose of this statement is to inform users of the BECTUlearning website what information is collected about them when they visit this site, how this information is used and how it is managed.
What is BECTUlearning?
BECTUlearning is a service provided by your trade union BECTU. BECTU is a data controller notified under the Data Protection Act to the Information Commissioner, and BECTUlearning services are included in that registration. The administration of the BECTUlearning website constitutes data processing that is specifically authorised in this way by BECTU.
Tracking visitors
In common with most websites, the BECTUlearning website automatically logs certain information about every request sent to it. This information may be used for system administration and for producing usage statistics. These statistics do not include information from which individuals can be identified. Data may also on occasion be used to enable the investigation of technical problems on the website. Logged information is not passed to any third party except if required by law.
Personal data collection and use
From time to time we will use electronic forms on this site to gather personal information for purposes directly related to the central purpose of the site - to facilitate the development of a community of Union Learning Representatives amongst the BECTU membership and provide information services about learning to BECTU members. This statements tells you the purpose for which the information is being collected, and you will be reminded of this when you submit it. When we do so we will let you know the purpose for which the information is being collected. Completion of and submission of any form on this website is entirely at your discretion. Be aware that by submitting information you signify your consent to its storage and use as described in this document. You have the right to access, modify or withdraw any personal information you submit, at any time.
As BECTUlearning is a BECTU service, registration is restricted to BECTU members, though some parts of the site are publicly accessible. Only registered members can access areas where personal information can be seen.
If you are registered with the site, you can edit your registration through your personal on-line form.
If you subscribe to a BECTUlearning email service you can end your subscription at any time by visiting our unsubscribe page.
BECTU will attempt to destroy any personal information it stores if it appears that it is no longer needed. To this end we record the login attempts of registered users.
BECTU respects your privacy and seeks to protect your personal data:
- You have the right to ask us at any time not to contact you by way of direct marketing (see the contact information below)
- BECTU will not disclose your personal data to any other organisations without your permission
- BECTU will not transfer your information outside the United Kingdom.

Please be aware that you should take care when supplying information about yourself in the web-based discussion forums on this site, as you should on other forums accessed on the Internet. Discussion forums are restricted to registered members, but we cannot guarantee your security.
